Branched-chain amino acids comprise three essential amino acids: L-leucine, L-valine and L-isoleucine. Branched chain amino acids, in conditions of metabolic stress (ie while the body is subjected to effort) are able to provide support to protein synthesis and can be a source for the production of energy (gluconeogenesis).
The functions of the amino acids are dependent on the presence of group B vitamins, which have a fundamental role in optimizing the catabolic and anabolic functions of the branched chain amino acids.
